But what are we to choose:
To our own selves be true?
To all men, tell the truth?
To know ourselves will prove
A love that will undo
The mite we have of truth.
To tell all men the truth
Will certainly pull loose
The grip we have on love.
Still, a choice must be made:
To ourselves or to men,
To our hearts or to theirs,
To give up or give in.
So be certain, aware,
Only one choice can win.
Always, it will end
With a simple statement:
Be true—
No matter the cost.
